Carrick on Villarreal 0-2 Man United
Villarreal 0-2 Man United: Michael Carrick faced his first post match news conference after beating Villarreal.
Michael Carrick made substitutions during the game and was asked how he felt when making changes that paid off. The caretaker boss replied:
We know Villarreal are a good team and they keep the ball from you. I had a feeling it would be a tight game and I said before the game it would be tough.
The first half was tight but we got better as the game progressed despite if being tougher at the start of the second half.
Carrick went on to say: There was a togetherness in the team.
It is not an important win for me personally it is a good win for the club and players. It wasn’t about me tonight it was about getting through.
We can’t hide from the run we have been on meant this game was even more important.
The biggest thing was how everyone come together.
Carrick was impressed with Jadon Sancho and said he was delighted for Jadon who got United’s second goal.
When asked about Ronaldo Carrick said:
Ronaldo don’t snatch at chances that’s what he has been gifted with and I am delighted we have him.
If you work well as a team you get your rewards Carrick went on to say.
We pressed as a team, that is out intention. Sometimes it works and other times it don’t. Fred done terrific especially on the Ronaldo goal.
I am delighted for the players tonight we showed the full package.
He got it right
Carrick’s first game in charge could not have gone any better.
Tactically, Carrick got it right, he kept it tight for the first hour then made changes which were more attacking. It paid off for the former United midfielder.
